The journey to the put-in point for the rafting on Tamur River involves a 18 hour road journey by WhiteWater Nepal private minibus to Basantpur, followed by a 4 day trek to Dovan . The 135 km river action takes 5 to 6 days. The return journey from Chatara, is 16 hours to Kathmandu. It is also possible to arrange a flight from Biratnagar to Kathmandu in additional cost.The Tamur, powerful and impressive river, is the sixth largest in Nepal. The scenery witnessed during the trek through the little known eastern part of Nepal to the put-in point is as inspiring as the river Tamur itself. The sides of the valley are wooded, with only a few villages and very little agriculture glimpsed throughout the trip. There are excellent beaches for camping and plenty of wildlife. Tamur river rafting/kayaking gives you the feeling of a wilderness expedition.The huge grade 4 and 5- rapids are challenging and exhilarating. Tamur is newly opened river for rafting that flows in the Far East and confluence with Sapta Koshi. Four days of stunning trekking from the nearest road access to the put in point through the remote villages, forest and open land with spectacular views of the mountains- Kanchanjunga, Makalu and Everest is another exhilarating program as combined with white water expedition. Tamur River presents the 135 km. of river action of 5 to 6 days through more than 100 of the most exciting rapids. The huge grade 4 and 5- rapids are challenging and exhilarating. Tamur river rafting offers you the opportunity to explore a beautiful, but hardly ever seen part of Nepal by foot or raft.The 18 hours road journey to Basantapur, followed by a 4 day trek takes you to Dovan, the Put-in point of Tamur River rafting. At Dovan three tributaries of the Tamur join their forces, combining the racing rivers of the high mountains to the north. Steep canyon walls enclose the river and the rapids are powerful and continuous. In the middle section the river opens up and there are beautiful white sandy beaches. The last few days where the river turns back to the west is phenomenal. Towering waves leap skyward, with seemingly endless rapids surging through steep canyon walls. Small fishermen's villages line the confluence of every major tributary, while wild monkeys watch from the jungle as we drift past. The return journey to Kathmandu from the take-out point of the Tamur River Rafting, Chatara, takes approximately 16 hours. It is also possible to arrange a flight from Biratnagar to Kathmandu.

The first commercial run of the Tamur was in 1990 and there have been very few descents since then.It is an outstandingly beautiful river with superb views of the Himalayan range including Mt. Everest, Mt. Kanchenjunga and Mt. Makalu. The river trip includes around 120 km descent through more than 100 of the most exciting rapids still to be named has to offer grade 3 to 4, with some graded -5, making one of the best white water expedition trips in the world.Tamur CampingThe trip starts with an internal flight or drive from Kathmandu to Biratnagar in the far South-East of Nepal. We take a private bus drive to Basantapur in the Tehrathum Region, where we camp overnight. The following day, we begin an awe-inspiringly beautiful 5-day trek to Dobhan through the remote Taplejung region of Eastern Nepal. From Dobhan we begin the exhilarating trip, which includes a day relaxing on a remote river beach or an optional one-day trek visiting local villages. The Tamur is best tackled between October and November, and February and May.
