After our afternoon of relaxation by the pool, we packed three days worth of clothes into waterproof bags and set off for a town called Damauli on the Seti River for some whitewater rafting. It was a nice ride through the area outside Pokhara, and interesting to see the rapid development taking place along the main road through the valley, on what had clearly been farmland until very recently. Unlike the houses in mountain villages, these had all been built from reinforced concrete, yet often with distinctive and attractive architectural touches, and many of the facades painted beautifully in bright colors. Some were still under construction, and others had concrete and steel rods extending upwards from the roof, anticipating additional stories being added in the near future. What was particularly fascinating was that the same townhouse style had been used almost everywhere, even in remote areas where only one or two buildings stood alone. It was odd to see these tall narrow structures with windowless, unfinished concrete sides sometimes standing exposed in the middle of farmland.
